Damask The decoration technique know as Damask ("Damasquinado"), it is basically the inflaying of a precious metal as 24 carat gold into anhother standard metal like steel, copper, iron, bronze, etc. This combination of metals provides a final result of a high plastic beauty. 2. Folowing a labour-intensive process wich is totaly artisan in nature, these figurines are fired at high temperatures, wich is the fundamental characteristic defining authentic porcelain. 4. Pottery. "Cuenca o Arista" This ceramics are inspired on the "mudejar mosaic" which in its evolution gave places to tile of "wooden bowl or edge" which takes the name of crest edge or carthenware wooden bowl that put limits to the enamels. This technique dates from the 15 th century. The greatst success of work of wooden bowl or edge places it in Triana (Seville) where it look its greatest splendor. 5. Pottery. "Cuerda Seca" The origin of the "Cuerda-Seca" (Dry rope) technique goes back to medieval times when the great cities of Southern Spain, such as, Cordoba or Seville, were the main centers of Western art and culture. In this environment expert master ceramist combined two noble materials, gold and enamel, to create extraordinary works of art today appreciated all over the world. The "Cuerda-Seca" (dry rope) process is begun with the "Bizcochado" (bisqué), or molding of the clay, wich is then dried and finally baked. Once this piece acquieres its shape, expert craftsmen proceed with the meticulous decoration of the smallest detaus with enamel. Following this hand-decoration the piece undergoes a second backing with which it reaches its characteristic consistency and brilliant coloring. After appliying 24 carat gold with a brush, the fin al backing, or "Tercer Fuego" (third firing) takes places witch which the definitive finish is obtained. |
